How many times do you tell yourself you're going to take a stand for something and then don't? How many times do you say, "I'll help that person next week?" Or "I'll stand up for them tomorrow?" God doesn't want us to be fearful...He wants us to be bold.
"The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion." Proverbs 28:1
This week in FCA our lesson was all about being a bold leader. A leader on the court, and off the court. It really got me thinking how many times I am fearful of doing God's work and standing up for Him. That is just silly. The Bible says in 2 Timothy 1:6, "For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control." God doesn't need us to be bold, He wants us to be bold for Him. And not just showing boldness, but speaking boldness. Bringing God into conversations. Inviting friends to church. Reading your Bible around others. All of those are great ways to be bold for God.
God recently called my sisters and I to be bold. We are being bold by listening to His calling to us to be Kingdom workers for Him. I am beyond blessed that He called us to this, and that we have an opportunity to glorify Him through our teaching, our joy, and our love. Now I would be lying if I said it's always easy, because it's not. Being bold means having others not agree with you. Being bold means getting out of your comfort zone. Being bold means a roller coaster of emotions. But God has given us a spirit "power and love and self-control". Not only are we on a mission to help those is Uganda, but we are on a mission to help others realize their potential through Christ. We are on a mission to bring the word of God to as many people as possible. And we are being bold by exposing our stories to all. It's not easy, but if you place your trust in God, he will make it easier.
When you are asked how do you eat an elephant, the response should be "one bite at a time". Well how do you be bold? One person at a time. To be bold we don't need to do anything huge right away. All it takes at first is one word. One verse. One song. When Tim Tebow wore "John 3:16" on those black things that went under his eyes (I'm not a football technical girl), millions of people searched that verse. Millions of people read the gospel in that moment. And all from one small action.
So I challenge you this week, just like we challenged our high schoolers...go be bold. Change your facebook status to your favorite Bible verse. Tweet out your favorite verse. Change your profile picture. Challenge a friend to memorize a verse with you. Change your profile picture. Buy someone's coffee and leave a verse behind for them. You never know how one small action, can transform so many lives. And even if it only transforms one life, then you have done your job.
